Adapt – The Four Project Focuses

Agency Project Delivery Framework → Adapt

Change is certain, and in agencies that includes the way that we deliver our projects.

Every day is an opportunity to learn, adapt processes, and improve ways of working. This could mean any number of things, including reducing wasted time, automating suitable tasks or clarifying documentation.

Adapt is a constant drive to improve our ways of working. Its tools and techniques are available and valuable at any time, before, during and after a project.

The value of Adapt mirrors that of the agile ‘inspect and adapt’ approach.

Implemented as a constant focus for teams, it’s listed as the last of the four focuses of the flexible, scalable Agency Project Delivery Framework.

Blueprint of Adapt. Team, inspection, iteration.

Critical for:

  • Reducing waste
  • Improving ways of working
  • Innovation
  • Learning from mistakes
  • Learning from clients

Learning and adapting is often the first aspect our work to feel the squeeze under pressure of project work. But a ringfenced Adapt focus is often the solution to many of the challenges that we see when work piles up.

Taking action following a mistake, or sharing and agreeing improvements when we spot an opportunity are critical to increasing a teams’ quality of work, but also quantity of work.

Whether as a review at the end of a project, or evaluating work on one part of many, the opportunity to learning and adapt is priceless when building strong teams.

Align focuses around several important elements. Defining good metrics for success. Spotting opportunities to improve those metrics. Reviewing completed phases of work. Implementing new ways of working as experiements to see what impact they have.
